Oldham's Spindles shopping centre has one of Europe's largest stained glass roofs, which depicts the life of composer Sir William Walton. The centre has shops on two levels with parking for 950 cars. It was home to stores such as Debenhams, Next, T.J. Hughes, Boots, Top Shop, WH Smith, Waterstones, alongside craft shops, phone-shops, jewellers ,coffee shops and places to pause and snack.
Update - 2022
The Spindles is currently being remodelled and repurposed, as new indoor market and food court, replacing Tommyfield; plus leisure and community space, and to be the new home of of Oldham Council - replacing the ageing Civic Centre. Anticipated to complete late 2023.
